Day 5
"I don't know what you saw and I definitely don't wanna know nothin'," he said bouncing the ball up and down and aimed to shoot in the basket. He missed.
"Are you scared?" I asked him, not wanting to sound brave because I definitely wasn't.
He shrugged and shoot for the basket once more and he didn't missed this time. "Yeah! That's what I'm talkin' about!" when the ball went straight into the basket. I wiped my sweaty palm on the back of my shorts and told him that if I could check the school out. Of course I wanted him to show me around, but he really didn't seem too interested so I wandered off myself.
I looked around the school's gym, swimming pool and the 'TV ROOM'; well that's what Ricky called it anyway. The 'TV ROOM' is where students can watch TV, use the internet or listen to music until curfew. They have a few DVD on the rack but none of them is very interesting. Lucky enough they had a few books like magazines and comic books and novels. I like reading because that's what I do most of my time at home anyway.
I checked the books that they have there and luckily the school had some decent books. Like, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Catcher In The Rye, This Side of Paradise and novels that has turned into a movie like Harry Potter and Brokeback Mountain. I had read To Kill A Mockingbird before a couple of times and I actually quite enjoyed it. I took the book The Catcher In The Rye by J.D Salinger and decided to read it at night. There wasn't really a lot of things in the 'TV ROOM' so I decided to check the school's library.
With every step I take, the school echoes and groan eerily and that made me almost peed in my pants. As I was walking up the stairs, I stumbled upon Ms Brown and I froze when she sternly stared at me. I swear, if looks can kill someone, I would've die already. "Good afternoon Ms Brown," I greeted her softly trying not to give any eye contact. She nodded her head and passed me. She smelled like cocoa butter and mud. I didn't know where she has been and I certainly didn't want to find out. I went to the library and there was no one there. It was really scary because the library was quite big. There were quite a lot of books on the floor and papers on the book rack.
The place wasn't tidy and it looked like no one has been there for quite sometime. It really scared me so I decided to leave when I heard a raspy whisper coming from the back of one of the book racks. I gulped and wanted to run away but the voice got louder. I don't know what was wrong with my brain, instead of running away, I decided to check where the voice was coming from. I tip toed slowly to the back of one of the book racks and saw nobody there and the voice has vanished. I was breathing very rapidly and I held the book very tightly against my hip. After a few minutes of silence, I quickly ran from the library to the gym hoping to find Ricky there and luckily, I did.
"Where've you been?" Ricky said in his deep voice. I sat down on the ground and asked for water. Ricky threw me a bottle of water and I quickly drank it. "What's up with you? Yous seen a ghost or something?" he chuckled and wiped his sweaty forehead with a towel.
"You have no idea," I said still trying to catch my breath because I had been running.
"What you mean?" he said eagerly and looked at me sharply. I took a deep breath and exhaled.
"Is there anyone else in school other than you, me, the Harris' and Ms Brown?" I asked. He shook his head and sat next to me. "You're sure?" he nodded his head, "100% sure?" and he nodded his head again. "This school creeps me out," I said honestly because it did.
"I's told you something was gonna happen but I didn't think it would be this quick," he said sounding a little scared and scanned left and right for several of times.
"Wh-what d'you mean?" I stuttered. Now, I was scared.
"C'mon, it's not safe to be talkin about this round here, I'll tell you upstairs," he stated still scanning around as if someone was eavesdropping on us. We both went upstairs to cool off and I wanted to know what was going on. I placed the book inside my drawer and changed my t-shirt because the one that I was wearing stuck to my body like a sticky Scotch-tape. I drank the water again and sat on my bed, waiting for Ricky to tell me what was going on.
"Dude, what's going on? What's happening?" I asked.
"You seen the clock tower at the back of the school?" he whispered and pointed out the window.
I nodded, "Yeah, why?"
"See, there's mystery behind the tower. They say, before the school was built, this used to be a graveyard," he whispered. "I really shouldn't say anything cos I don't want nothing to happen to me," Ricky shuddered and frankly, he looked more scared than I was.
"Wh-why?" I stuttered again. He shrugged and rummaged through his striking blond hair. "Dude, why tell me cos frankly I'm freaking out!" I yelled.
He shushed me angrily and face palmed himself. "I don't know! Jesus, don't yell or else we'll get in trouble and trust me, you don't want that," he warned me.
"Okay, I'm sorry but will you please just tell me what's going on? What's the mystery?" I asked a little calmer. Truth was, I only yelled because I was scared.
"I honestly don't know," he said softly and stare into space. I sighed and scratched my head trying to think of something. This is the first time ever I was actually interested in something. It was almost evening and he said that Mrs Harris probably has made tea for us so we went downstairs. "Remember Mike, whatever happens, you tell me and it stays between us. If anyone finds out that we're stickin our nose up in someone else's business, we'll be in big trouble. Ya understand?" he warned me again. I nodded and understood him because I didn't want any trouble. We sauntered downstairs casually where Mrs Harris has already put one piece of spongecake of each of our plates. The cake was nice but I wasn't savoring it properly because the only thing that was going through my mind was the voice I heard and the disturbance last night.

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.
