The Old Abandoned Clock Tower.- Part 3

Day 3

Since the school wasn't opened yet, the only people that were there were me, Ricky, Ms Brown, and Mr & Mrs Harris. Mr Harris is the school guard and he checks all the security and Mrs Harris is the dinner lady. She cooks food for everyone in the school and they both live there. According to Ricky, they have been living there for almost 20 years. Me and Ricky sat quietly at the dining table with mash potatoes, two sausages, green peas and gravy on our plate. I have to admit, it looks kind of delicious. I cut the sausage and ate it with the mash potato and gravy. God bless Mrs Harris, her cooking is amazing. I gobbled on the food messily and ate the food like I haven't eaten anything for centuries.

Mom is a very good cook but I want to bring Mrs Harris to Thanks Giving or Christmas. Since I didn't really knew Ricky, we didn't talk much. And there's not a lot to talk about anyway so I just sat there quietly with food in my mouth. Then, chills ran down my spine when Ms Brown approached us.

"Michael, after dinner, I want you to follow Ricky and look at your new classes and I want you to obey the school rules. Ricky, I want you tell and show him where he should go and where he is not allowed to go. Understand boys?" She said coldly with both hands behind her back without giving us any eye contact.

"Yes ma'am," Ricky said softly, head down.

"Uh- yes.. yes ma'am," I stuttered.

She nodded and walked again. I swallowed my food, "does she live around here?" I asked Ricky. He shrugged. Great, I thought. First I have to spent my whole year at this creepy boarding school, second, the teacher looks very strict and third, I am stuck with a socially-awkward guy.

"Hurry up and finish your food, I's gonna show you 'round school," the blonde, skinny guy told me. I finished up my food and left it there for Mrs Harris to collect it. We left the dining hall and wandered up the stairs. He showed me the Science lab, the different classes. They were all the same; big blackboard, wooden chairs stacked neatly on one corner. Undisturbed dusts underneath the tables and in between the the chalks and blackboards. The school looked ancient I thought.

He told me the school rules, don't wear any shorts in classes; no rock printed t-shirts and and accesories such as necklaces and rings. Technically, all the rules were not applied to me so I'll no have no problem obeying it. "One thing you oughta remember though," Ricky said as we passed through the gym.

"What's that?" I asked scanning through the gym.

"Whatever you do, don't go to the back of the school and tryna' found out whats the history behind it. Lotsa people have tryn' it and I seen them do it. None of the came back y'see," he said with his deep voice and in his Southern slang. His eyes were reading my face to understand the situation and it seemed like he knows that I won't even go near there.

"Alright but there's one thing I wanna know."

"Wha's that?" he said as he closed the gym door and locked it back.

"Why is there a graveyard and an old clock tower there? It looks abandoned. Doesn't anyone-" I said when he interrupted me by shushing.

"That's the mystery. Lotsa people wants to know and when they try to find out, bad things happen to them. Thats why I don't go lookin for trouble cos I ain't want no trouble," he said, "but if you's still wanna find out, I won't go and stop you. Just don't ask me to come along," he continued and walked away. I stood there like an idiot trying to figure out why it's so dangerous to go there and for the first time ever, I actually wanted to know something and eager to find out.

Despite all the troubles that I might get in for trespassing, I have the urge to check out the place. Of course, I'd give it some time for me to get use to the place since I still get goosebumps whenever I take a step in the hallway and whenever I look at Ms Brown's stern face. The day was getting darker and thank God the sun had calmed down and it wasn't as fiery hot as before. Ricky told me that 'light's out' by ten o'clock sharp and we have the extra time to study, watch TV in the TV room that they provided for students or do anything that we want. I played with the army knife that my parents gave me and browse the internet. Luckily the place had wi-fi because otherwise I would've died of boredom.

Mr Harris called out 'light's out guys' and we both shut our lamp by the lampside table. I looked out the window and wondered what's the history and so called mystery behind the tower. I was tired after a long day and I knew I had another day to look forward to this creepy boarding school. I closed my eyes and breathe calmly and after a few minutes, I was in dreamland.
