"I saw Joseph earlier just ten minutes before I saw you guys," Danny said, picking out olives from his pizza leaving only the cheese, pepperoni and green pepper on. His feet was up on my sofa leaving no space for me and Emma to sit so we had to sit on the floor. "Did he drive you there?" he took a bite out of his pizza and the cheese hanged on from the bread to his mouth. He looked like one of the old cartoons.
"Yeah," Emma said. She had three pizzas on her plate, gobbling them one by one like a pig. I glanced at her and sniggered. "This pizza is good, can we order another one?"
"Another one? You've got three on your plate Ems, and we have like three left on the box." Danny threw a piece of used tissue at Emma's direction and she avoided it. I laughed at their actions because I wanted to remember this moment in my head and keep it there forever. After I go away, I'd only have Danny with me and it won't be the same without Emma. "He's actually half in love with you Sam, Joseph. Just go to prom with him, I don't know why you don't want. If I was a girl, I'd go with him." Danny said, his eyes wandering around the room avoiding eye contact with me because he knew I'd make a face.
"A little bit worrying there Dan," I chuckled, "there is really nothing wrong with him but I don't know why. I don't know, I'll just go with you two." I said sheepishly and move my hand slowly towards another slice of pizza.
"We both have dates Sam, don't be an idiot," Emma stated the obvious.
"I know, but, fine! I'll think about it."
"Don't say yes because of us, because we want you to, say yes because YOU want to say yes," Danny advised me because he knew me too well. Better than anyone else. I sighed, and I didn't know whether I was disappointed or sad or just couldn't be bothered to listen to mom and dad advising me anymore. It's good that both of my best friends want me to be happy but I have always been hard headed and stubborn, even with my feelings. No, especially with my feelings.
"Well, I'm going to take a shower. You two clean up this mess," Danny said, half serious, half joked.
"Why? Cos we're females? Don't fucking be sexist just because we're girls we have to do it, don't be a dickhead." Emma was a bit of a feminist and therefore if anyone objectify women or anything similar, she would get really ticked off by it. Danny held both his hands in front of him as he was caught doing something wrong, which in a way he was wrong, and murmured sorry. "I'm going to go upstairs and shower. YOU clean it up and don't be such an asshole." Emma marched upstairs.
"God, it was just a joke. She had to take it so seriously didn't she?" Danny claimed and took the empty pizza box and cans of Coke with only about three drops left inside it. I shrugged and helped him clean up the mess. We were so careful not to stain my mom's favourite Parisian carpet until Danny accidently dropped a can of empty Coke.
"No!" I shouted, "pick it up! It's empty right?" I instructed Danny and he did it as quickly as possible.
"Oh! Thank God, it's empty. No worries, there's no stain," Danny sighed in relieved. I rolled my eyes and sighed in relieved as well, shaking my head. It was about 10 at night and my neighbourhood seem awfully quite. We went outside to throw the rubbish away, ambling back to the door, we couldn't open it. I clutched the doorknob but it wouldn't open. "What's wrong?" Danny said lighting up a cigarette.
"It's locked. Oh great going Dan, you closed it and now we're locked outside." He laughed and blew the smoke in a long strand. "I thought you stopped."
"For a week, can't do it. Oh well, we only live once right?" And he formed his lips into an 'O' shape and blew smoke rings. I thought it looked cool when he did that, heroic somehow. "Don't you have a key?"
"Nope. Guess we have to wait for Emma."
"Guess so." And we sat on the front porch next to each other, with elbows just touching and I felt the warmth of his arms. He was wearing a plain t-shirt with black shorts just below his knee with white converses on. "God, I'm going to miss you guys so much." Danny said sadly. He looked at the empty streets, which was dark but the dim light of lamp posts made the streets look less eerie. The lamp post buzzed which echoed in the streets and I looked at Danny; charming and slightly tanned. He has this baby face and a really nice features. He has a sharp jawline, really light blue/green eyes and slight freckles on his nose. He's got a quiff, just a small one jelled, maybe waxed just roughly in the morning. I have never really comprehend how very good looking he was until now, and I just sat there staring at him smoking.
"I'm going to miss you too," and I rested my head on his shoulder linking one arm with his. He rested his head on my head and put his arms around me. "But we're going to be going to the same place right?"
"Yeah, and then you're going to leave for New York after a few months."
"Doesn't mean we won't meet each other." I sighed sadly and had a mental picture of me and Danny, my best friend who was also like a brother to me taken in my head. "Don't worry Dan, it's all for the future." He sighed heavily and threw the butt of his cigarette on the floor and squished it with his feet. He kissed the top of my forehead and hugged me tighter,
"Of course we will. Always. Every week." And we just sat there for a couple more minutes until we heard footsteps from the inside stomping like a giant from upstairs and Emma called out for us. Danny and I got up and knocked on the door, Emma's hair was all wet, she had a towel over her shoulder, wearing pajama shorts and a plain pink oversize t-shirt. "Where'd you get that shirt? It's huge," Danny laughed.
"You smell like smoke. And it's Dean's. He lend it to me. Okay, I lied. I stole it because I like it. So sue me."
"I will," Danny joked. We went back inside and I went upstairs to my room and change. Afterwards, Danny got changed and pushed the coffee table in the living room aside and laid out mattress just enough space for me and Emma. I told my parents that Danny and Emma was going to sleepover and accompany me until they come back and they had no problems with it. To be fair, I don't even know why I asked for their permission since they've known and loved both of them and Emma and Danny sleepover pretty much every other day.
It was already 11.30 by the time we all snuggled up in our sleeping place, me and Emma next to each other, Danny lying on the couch. We couldn't sleep so we decided to put on movies and talked about pointless things. We talked about the best memories that we shared. "What's your favorite memory of us three together Dan?" I asked to break the silence after a long laugh.
"Gotta be camp three years ago!" Danny shouted excitedly remembering the memory that is still crystal clear in his head.
"Oh no!" Emma cried out, face palmed herself and chuckled embarrassed with the memory. I laughed too, reminiscing what happened that day which the three of us swore we would never ever forget. "Fuck you Danny, that wasn't funny!"
He laughed again, "Yeah it was! It was fucking hilarious, oh God! Do you remember?"
"You fucking pulled a prank on me, that scared me shitless. I still hate you two for that," Emma turned her back on us as if she was sulking. "Why in the world would you dressed up as a fucking demonic, possessed person and fucking chased me all the way to the fucking toilet? And on top of that, Sam," she raised her voice at me giving me one of her most deathly stares, "why would you pretended to be possessed as well and walked like that? You were like a fucking spider!" Me and Danny laughed again until I got that pain in my stomach. "Don't fucking laugh! You know I hate ghosts and those kind of stuff, what's wrong with you two?!" Emma shouted at us again. She couldn't help but laugh as well because it was the best prank ever.
"Oh come on Emma, that was genius. We said we were sorry. No one got hurt," Danny apologized and jumped from the couch and on to the mattress with me and Emma. We three laid down, next to each other, from left to right: me, Danny and Emma. Danny took my hand, and took Emma's hand. "God, I love you two so much. Do you guys know that? I'm feeling so gay right now but I do. I really do," Danny sighed sadly and I could feel his grip tighter. To assure him that I loved him too, I gripped his hand back. The three of us stayed like that for a while and after a few minutes, I heard a soft snore coming from my right. Emma has already passed out due to a very tiring day.
"You still awake Dan?" I asked softly. He mumbled yes sleepily and I turned my head around to look at him. I let go of his hand and got myself up with one elbow, staring at both of them sleeping silently. This, to me, this moment would always be in my memory. Every memory of me, Danny and Emma would always be my favorite memory.
"Yeah," Emma said. She had three pizzas on her plate, gobbling them one by one like a pig. I glanced at her and sniggered. "This pizza is good, can we order another one?"
