Maybe someday - Part 2

After class, I waited for Emma outside school near the car park where all the kids hung out waiting for someone or just waiting to cause drama or trouble. Emma and I have our driver's license but unfortunately neither of us have a car but Danny does. The thing with Danny is that he is too attached to it, like the car has got this power over him that he won't let anyone else use it unless he gives permission. And that happens on such rare occasions. Actually, that never happens at all. So when Emma came, I asked her, "How are we going to go to the mall now? We don't have a car."

"We can call a cab," she suggested. I shook my head, cabs doesn't pick up high school students, for some reason they think that we'd robbed them. Adults should really trust us more. "Then? How are we going to get there?" she said in a slightly British twang. I think she did that on purpose because Emma's accent is pure American. I smirked at her hinting that we should ask Danny for his car. "He's not going to lend us his car Sam, he barely lets us touch it when he's not around!"

"Oh come on, if we just ask nicely. Where is he?"

"I don't know. Maybe he went home first, in his car." Emma said through gritted teeth. Maybe he did went ahead so we had no choice but to ask one of our school mates to drive us there. "Ask Joseph!" Emma suggested this crazy idea. Yes, he has a car but it would seem inappropriate considering I said no to the guy twice and furthermore asked him to wait for me when he could be asking different girls. I shook my head and stretched my arm in the air and tapped my foot on the ground thinking that maybe I do have to ask Joseph. Not long before I could tap in his number on my phone, he greeted me from behind,

"Hi Sam. You were about to call me? Why?" he asked with his eyebrow up and had that cute little smirk on his face revealing his dimples. I turned around and greeted him with a smile,

"This is going to sound really sudden but if you could drive us to the mall, would that be okay?" I got straight to the question and Emma's eyes popped out of surprised. I was pretty surprised that I asked him that, I didn't know where it came from, it just sort of jumped out of my mouth. He squint his eyes like he was confused and licked his lips uncertainty. "Oh, never mind. It's fine if you can't, we could just ask someone else-"

"-No! N-no, I mean I have to go somewhere but okay, I'll drop you guys off-"

"It's really fine," I interrupted, "if you have to be somewhere else." I could see Emma's eyes were on to me and Joseph and then me again like in one of those cartoons when they move their head vigorously.

"Hey, no, I mean I can drive you guys there," he said calmly in his deep, soothing voice. He looked at Emma as if he only just noticed that she was there and smiled at her, "so are you guys coming or what?"

Joseph walked ahead and me & Emma walked up behind him, "That was easy. He's really in love with you, he's smart, he's hot and he's like the school's favorite musician so why are you playing hard to get?" Emma whispered to me and linked her arms around mine. I rested my head on the side of her head and shrugged. I really wish I could answer her but I don't even know the answer myself.

"Ask me that again when I found out the answer," I whispered back and we reached his car. His car is a red Chevy and it was really shiny, it looked like as if he just had it washed and waxed. "Thanks," I simpered shyly when he opened the car door for me and gestured his hand in the air for me.

"Oh thanks!" Emma scoffed sarcastically when she was left behind. Joseph laughed and apologized and gentlemanly opened the door for Emma after he closed the door after me. "Oh, thanks," she said in her flirty voice and raised her eyebrows seductively giving him one of those 'Emma stare'. He chuckled and winked back at her playfully and I shook my head whimsically. He set looked in his side view mirror, turned the clutch to reverse and we were off. "Where are you headed to?" Emma asked. A playlist of rock music was playing softly on his radio and he looked at Emma through his rear view mirror,

"Somewhere. I got to meet someone."

"Are you sure you're not going to be late if you drive us to the mall?" I asked. He looked so calm and sweet when he's driving and I couldn't help but stare at him. I took my gaze away when Emma pretended to cough because I could tell that she knew I was staring at him. I'm pretty sure he realized I was staring at him because I saw a slight grin cracked on his face.

"Yeah, don't worry," he replied and took a right turn. "So, do you guys have a ride back home?" he asked as if he was offering.

"No, it's fine. We'll call Danny to pick us up. Thanks though," I said. He smiled and nodded. We didn't really have anything else to say and I saw Emma doing her little dance through the rear view mirror and I shook my head, giggling. "Look at her, God, I'll miss her when she leaves for Harvard."

"Where will you be going?"

"I got accepted to Pennsylvania State University, as did Danny so we'll be attending there. But afterwards, he's going to try and apply to Yale and I'm going to apply to New York so," I told him my future plans. His face still looked calm but slightly sad though he didn't really ask me anything else. "What about you?" I asked, "where are you going?"

"Oh, we're here," he stopped the car near the car park of the mall. He seemed to be avoiding the question that I asked him when he looked at Emma and waved in front of her because she was in her own little world. "I'll see you tomorrow then Sam. Oh, and um Emma," he stuttered and unlocked the door. Emma has already got out of the car and I followed her afterwards slinging my backpack behind me,

"Thanks."

"No problem."

And we were off. I walked linked arms with Emma, "You like him don't you?" she asked suddenly.

"Yeah, he's really cool."

"No like that, I mean you like like him don't you?" she nudged me.

I nudged her back, "Yeah I know what you mean and yes I do like like him."

"You do?!" she yelped like a chihuahua with eyes popped out stunned, and mouth slightly open. "Wait, then why won't you go to prom with him? Why didn't you say yes when he asked you to be his girlfriend a year ago?"

"I don't know. Come on Ems, do we really need to have this talk now? I just want to find a nice dress." I was avoiding her question purely because I didn't think it was necessary to answer all her demanding questions now. She squinted curiously at me and sighed sarcastically,

"Fine. Whatever. We'll just leave it at that."

"I didn't say that, I mean we'll talk about it later-"

"Yeah, yeah I know." She waved her hands in front of my face and I slapped it. We laughed it off and wandered about in the mall giggling about pointless things until we saw a shop made specially for proms & weddings. "Perfect," Emma pointed out. We went in there and saw a couple of girls from school testing different dresses on; pink with ruffled, blue with laces, red with ribbons and bows. They greeted us with 'hey' and continued with their own business.

"Can I help you girls?" an average height woman, with hair loose over her shoulders, plain yellow shirt to go with her boot cut jeans and measuring tape around her neck greeted us. She looked friendly with her wide chapped lips and diamond shaped nose with those slanting downward eyes. "You looking for prom dresses or you getting married?" she joked. We both chuckled along with her and I asked to see the variety of dresses the store has. She took us further down the store and there were lots of different dresses on the clothing rack marked 'for sale' and 'new arrivals' and they were all stunning dresses. "I'll leave you girls to try on some dresses and if you need any help just shout out alright?" she said in the same friendly voice that greeted us earlier.

"Thanks!" both me and Emma shouted after she left us. We looked at each other excitedly and took the dresses from the rack and ran towards the fitting room. "So you're going with Dean?" I asked from my fitting room. Emma's fitting room was next to mine and she blurted out 'mhmm' and I heard her huffed and puffed. I laughed, "did you gain weight or something?"

"Not funny! Jesus, I knew I should go on a diet," she whined. Z-zip the sound of her dress zip closed. "Oh! I can fit in it, yay!" she giggled excitedly and I shook my head. "Huh, this is kind of nice. Have you tried yours on?"

"Yeah. We'll show each other on three okay?"

"1-"

"-2"

"3!" we shouted and marched through the fitting room door in our dresses. "You look hot," we complimented each other simultaneously and laughed. "Turn around!" I yelped excitedly. Emma wore a really elegant baby blue strapless dress that revealed her beautiful tanned Latin skin. As usual, she has nice curves and I was skinnier than her which made me a little self conscious. Her dress had little flowers around her waist and a really puffy end whereas my one has one strap that goes over the right shoulder with some sort of ribbon around the waist. My dress was white because I like to keep it simple. "You don't think my boobs look small do you?" I asked Emma whilst cupping both my boobs in my hand.

"No no, and do you think I look fat?" she asked looking at the mirror.

"No!" and we continued giggling and discussing about the price and everything until Danny saw us through the window outside the mall with this devilish grin on his face. "Oh no, here comes Danny," I said annoyed.

"Well! Don't my girls look beautiful!" he teased us both and wrapped his arm around my waist.

"Piss off Dan," Emma laughed and he went over to her and hugged her around the shoulders.

"I'm not lying you know, you guys look stunning, is it your last dress?" he asked letting go of Emma's shoulder gently. We shook our heads and he laughed, "yeah I knew it. So how long are you two planning on staying?"

"I don't know, we might try on a couple more dresses and stroll around the mall for a couple more hours. What are you doing here? We thought you ditched us," Emma said without looking at Danny but focusing on the dress she's wearing.

"I'm just looking for suits as well, are we going back to your house, my house or Sam's after this?"

"Mine," I said, "mom and dad's at grandma's house and Sarah is going to a sleepover so you guys will have to stay at my house today and until Saturday," I told them.

"What? I can sleep over today and tomorrow but not Friday. Dad's making me take Laura to see her fiance, sorry," Danny replied. I nodded at him assuring that it was fine and looked over to Emma who's in a trance by her dress.

"Oh, um yeah sure whatever," she said and continued to admire herself. I looked at Danny and he had the same reaction as I did. Danny went to find some suit in the same store as us but he left after a few minutes and told us to call him once we were done 'shopping'. We went over to my house, ordered pizzas and put on movies like we always do on our sleepover. We talked about the littlest things until we all passed out due to tiredness.
