Reality, Fate & Destiny- Part 32

#32

"What was that all about?" Jack scoffed. I shrugged and watch at the endlessly boring television program. He went to his bedroom and slammed the door. I couldn't be bothered to go up to my room so I just stayed there and stare at the flashing monitor. I looked over my shoulder.

"Argh, it's only ten o'clock? This is so shit," I mumbled and closed the TV. I lie down on the couch and heard murmur of my parents, arguing. I looked above the ceiling, there was a thud. I sat up straight and decided to investigate. I tiptoed upstairs, and peeked inside my parents' bedroom. Mom was in her white nightgown, her face without any make up on; I just realised how beautiful my mother looked. Her hair down, just below her shoulder blades; black spots underneath her eyes. She was standing with her hands folded against her chest opposite my dad.

Dad was still wearing his long plain white shirt with the polka dots tie that we bought him for his 43th birthday with khaki pants and brown clunky shoes. His white hair combed to the right side and his stomach slightly bloated. "Look, ah will only be gone for a few days. Its only business. You saw what had to be done in Miami. Ah don't see why its that biga deal," he said with his southern accent as he walk towards mom and put his hand on mom's shoulder.

She shrugged his hand off, "Its a fucking big deal! You just got back and now you wanna go again? Don't you care about your family? Your children? Me?" she sobbed, "your daughter are friends with the wrong type of people and you're not even bothered about it." I stood up and scrunch my eyebrows. All I thought was, what the fuck? I controlled myself from marching in there and tell my mom to shut up; instead, I knelt and peeked, I wanted to know more.

"Mandy and Adam are fine children. It's not like you're at home often as well," the old man replied defensively. Yes dad! You tell her!

"Fine children?! You don't even know them! Before Jade was friends with them, she was a good girl. Always studying, always listened to me, and now, those two changed her! Now, she parties, she smokes and hell she might even do drugs!" What the fuck is she talking about? She doesn't even know them! Calm down Jade, just listen first.

Dad sighed, "I'm sorry. I'll give her a talk." He kissed her neck and traced her features. I ran to my room and closed my door. I paced back and forth, why doesn't she like them? She never even talk to them. Jeez! Its not like I'm doing drugs or anything.. wait a minute, how did she know about me smoking and partying? Has she been spying on me? Fuck me.

The door opened and my dad stepped in, "Sweetie, can I talk to you?" I swallowed, and thought that I was busted for eavesdropping. He closed the door and sat on my bed. I didn't even gave him any eye contact. I gave him a smile and sat next to him. "Remember when you were young, you wanted to paint your room pink but I accidently paint it yellow instead?" he chuckled softly.

"Yeah," I smiled. I reminisced about when I was a child.

"And that time when you begged that you wanted the-the doll, what was the name of the doll?" he stopped to think for a while, "Agna doll? Aggine doll?" he guessed.

"Aggie Baby Doll dad," I corrected him.

"Ah, right thats it. You promised that if I bought you the doll, you would never ever ask me for anything else and you would be a good girl," suddenly his chuckling fades and looked at me intensely, "you've grown Jade. You're not a little girl anymore." I didn't say a word, mainly because I didn't know what to say and I was afraid to say anything. I looked at my panda slippers and put my head down.

"Yeah," I muttered under my breath. It was almost inaudible I didn't think he would've heard it but he did. For a forty-five year old man, his hearing was like a bat. He put his arm around me and kissed on the top of my head. He stood up, and stand by the door.

"G'night baby girl." He closed the light and whistled a lullaby that he and mom used to sing it to me when I was a child. I sighed and lay down on my backside and rest my eyes.
