We both stare at each other, jaws open with yellowish, sticky food in it. She gestured her head asking me to go and check out who's by the door. I shook my head rapidly with my mouth still open and blinked my eyes. She mouthed me, go look! I mouthed her back, you go look! She got up from her seat, with the bowl and fork in her hand and ask me to follow her to the door. I took my bowl and we both cautiously tiptoed to the door. Mandy did her ninja-style pose as we reached the door. The shadow of a head reflected through the opaque glass door. We both breathe heavily, scared that it might be a mugger or something. Slowly, Mandy twist the doorknob and a head peered in. We both screamed in terror, jumping up and down in our baggy white shirt and stripe shorts.
"Oi! Oi! You two! Stop screaming!" a voice shouted back at us. A voice we both recognized. A man in his fourties was standing by the door. He's got that old soldier haircut with a slightly grey patch on the side of his hair. The man was wearing a grey suit with clunky brown shoes with a satchel by his side. He's got wrinkles on his pale face, his big nose made him looked like a strict sergeant in the military. We stopped our shriek; the man letting himself into the house. "Mandy my dear! I missed you." The old military man said and hugged my messed up friend.
"Good morning Mr Jenkins," I said sheepishly with the bowl of mac and cheese in my hand.
"Morning? You must set your alarm clock wrong love. It's good to see you Jade."
Mandy stood there with her eyes wide open and crumbs of cheese on the side of her curvy lips. We all stood there in the hallway in silent. I could almost feel the awkwardness so I broke the silence, "Should I take your satchel and put it in the living room?" The man refused my offer by shooking his head lightly and look back at his daughter.
"You two look like an awful mess."
"Yeah, well dad, since when do you care?" Mandy muttered under her breath. The helpless old man heard her but didn't say a word. He smiled faintly and walked to the living room.
"Well, at least the house is clean." He said sarcastically scanning through the whole place from the corner of the room until the other side of the house. I giggled nervously. Mandy threw her head back and followed her father from behind leaving me standing there by the hallway all by myself. I licked my lips and taste delicious creamy cheese on it. Slowly, I ran to catch up with them.

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.
